Yield issues can arise at any stage in the manufacturing process, predominantly associated with solder issues, delamination, and layer mismanagement. As PCBs get highly complex, yield issues rise.
High-performing companies aim for First Pass Yield to be in excess of 98% to 99% due to the critical nature of the hardware. Yet this still mounts up. Take Apple, for example. Apple’s cost of goods sold for the fiscal year ending September 2025 reported was $220.96 billion; even if PCB yield issues contributed just 0.5% to their total COGS, the annual cost would be $1.1 billion.
With the current manufacturing process of scrap and rework, the cost grows when new materials need to be mined and used because the components in scrap become obsolete and damaged.

However, when repairs are necessary, the ReCYCLE™ process can alter the chemistry of these bonds, enabling components and materials to be harvested without damage or contamination, making them ready for reuse on the next board. This process operates at lower temperatures, allowing manufacturers to enhance first-pass yield rates.
Furthermore, if problems do occur during manufacture or design when experimenting during innovation, or changes in design iteration, the ability to remove and reuse components minimises the need for new material extraction and reduces waste, whilst facilitating the reintroduction of these boards and components in a more efficient timeframe.
